What Is Lead-Zinc Ore Beneficiation?

Lead-Zinc Ore Beneficiation is the process of separating Lead and Zinc minerals from gangue and from each other. Due to their close symbiotic relationship, Preferential Flotation (floating Lead first, then Zinc) or Mixed-Separate Flotation is commonly used to produce separate high-grade concentrates.

Step 1: Crushing & Screening

Goal: Reduce ore size to ≤ 10mm for efficient grinding.

  • Rough Crushing: Jaw Crusher handles large raw ore.
  • Medium Crushing: Cone Crusher reduces size further.
  • Fine Crushing: High Pressure Roller Mill ensures fine feed.
  • Control: A Vibrating Screen returns oversize particles.

Step 2: Grinding & Classification

Goal: Liberate Lead and Zinc minerals (Monomer Dissociation).

  • Primary Grinding: Ball Mill with Spiral Classifier.
  • Secondary Grinding: Ball Mill with Cyclone Group ensures optimal particle size distribution.

Step 3: Flotation Separation

Goal: Separate Lead and Zinc concentrates using specific reagents.

Lead Flotation:
Inhibitors suppress Zinc. Collectors float Lead (Galena) first.
Zinc Flotation:
Copper Sulfate activates Zinc (Sphalerite). Collectors float Zinc from the tailings of the Lead circuit.

*Sulfur flotation is performed afterwards if Pyrite recovery is needed.

Goal: Reduce moisture to ≤ 8-12%.

Q1: How do you separate Lead and Zinc effectively?

A: We use a specialized Inhibitor System. In the first stage, Zinc is suppressed (inhibited) so only Lead floats. Then, Zinc is activated (using Copper Sulfate) and floated in the second stage.
