This solution adopts "Gravity Separation as the core", covering Roughing, Gravity Separation, Cleaning, and Fine Mud Treatment. It efficiently recovers Wolframite ((Fe,Mn)WO₄) and associated metals like Tin and Molybdenum, achieving a concentrate grade of WO₃ ≥ 65%.

What Is Wolframite Beneficiation?

Wolframite Beneficiation is the process of extracting Tungsten minerals from gangue. Since Wolframite has a high specific gravity (7.1-7.5) and is brittle, Gravity Separation (Jigs and Shaking Tables) is the primary method. To prevent loss of brittle tungsten crystals (sliming), a process of "Early Collection and Multi-stage Grinding" is essential.

Wolframite Beneficiation Process Steps

Step 1: Roughing (Pre-concentration)

Goal: Discard waste rock early to reduce downstream load.

  • Crushing: Jaw Crusher reduces raw ore size.
  • Jigging: Movable Screen Jig processes coarse particles. Tailings are discarded immediately, while coarse concentrate goes to the next stage.

Step 2: Gravity Separation (Core Stage)

Goal: Recover Wolframite based on density difference.

  • Multi-stage Jigging: Trapezoidal Jigs process medium-sized particles.
  • Shaking Table: Shaking Table processes fine-grained tailings from jigs.
  • Closed Loop: Middlings are returned for regrinding to ensure maximum recovery.

Step 3: Cleaning & Purification

Goal: Remove Sulfides and separate Wolframite from Cassiterite/Scheelite.

Desulfurization:
Table Flotation removes sulfide minerals (Pyrite, Arsenopyrite) first.
Separation:
Combined Magnetic-Flotation-Electrostatic process separates Wolframite (magnetic/conductive) from Scheelite and Cassiterite.

Step 4: Fine Mud Treatment

Goal: Recover Tungsten from slime (often 20% of total metal).

  • Uses Centrifugal Concentrators or Flotation to recover fine tungsten, tin, and bismuth minerals that gravity separation might miss.

Q1: Why is "Over-Crushing" bad for Wolframite?

A: Wolframite is brittle. If over-crushed into fine slime (-0.037mm), it becomes very difficult to recover by gravity separation, leading to huge metal loss. We use Stage Grinding and Jigs to recover coarse particles early.

Q2: How do you separate Wolframite and Cassiterite?

A: Both are heavy minerals. However, Wolframite is weakly magnetic, while Cassiterite is non-magnetic. We use High-Intensity Magnetic Separation to separate them effectively.

Q3: Can you treat the fine mud/slime?

A: Yes. For fine mud, we use Centrifugal Concentrators or specialized Flotation reagents to recover the fine tungsten values, increasing total recovery by over 20%.
