NG Peripheral Roller Drive Thickener

The NG Type Thickener features a Peripheral Roller Drive mechanism, designed for large-scale sedimentation tanks (Diameter 15m - 53m). Instead of a central motor, it is driven by a motor carriage running on the tank's peripheral track.

It offers high torque and stability for handling massive volumes of tailings and concentrate in Iron Ore, Copper, and Coal washing plants.

Working Principle: Peripheral Drive

Driving the rake arms from the outer rim for maximum leverage.

01

Feeding

Slurry enters through the central feed well. Flocculants are added to accelerate particle settling.

02

Peripheral Drive

The drive carriage with motor and reducer runs on the circular steel rail around the tank, rotating the long rake bridge.

03

Discharge

The rake blades scrape the settled sludge spirally towards the central discharge cone. Clean water overflows into the peripheral launder.

NG Peripheral Drive Thickener Structure

Technical Choice: Peripheral vs. Center Drive Thickener

For large tanks, Peripheral Drive is often the superior choice:

Feature Peripheral Roller Drive (NG) Center Drive (NZ)
Tank Diameter Large (15m - 53m). Small to Medium (< 24m).
Torque High (Long lever arm). Medium.
Maintenance Easy (Motor accessible). Hard (Motor on center bridge).
Cost Lower for large sizes. Higher for large sizes.

Core Advantages

1. Economical for Large Scale

For tanks larger than 20m, the peripheral drive design is structurally simpler and cheaper than a massive center drive gearbox.

2. Overload Protection

The friction drive (roller on track) acts as a natural safety clutch. If resistance is too high, the wheel slips, preventing motor burnout or rake damage.

3. Easy Maintenance

The drive unit (motor, reducer, wheel) is located on the tank rim, making it easily accessible for inspection and repair without needing a crane.

Typical Applications

  • ● Tailings Dewatering:
Handling massive tailings discharge from large-scale copper/iron mines. See Tailings Solution.
  • ● Coal Slime Water:
Clarifying coal washing water for recycling in Coal Preparation Plants.
  • ● Sewage Treatment:
Primary sedimentation tanks in municipal or industrial wastewater plants.
  • ● Process Water Recovery:
Recycling water from large sand washing or aggregate plants.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How does the power supply work?

A: Power is supplied to the rotating bridge via a Slip Ring Collector mounted on the center column. This allows continuous 360-degree rotation without cable tangling.

Q: Is the tank made of steel or concrete?

A: For large NG thickeners (>15m), the tank is usually made of Concrete on-site to save cost. OreSolution supplies the mechanism (Bridge, Drive, Rake, Center Column).

Q: What if it snows or the track gets icy?

A: The roller drive relies on friction. In icy conditions, slippage may occur. We recommend installing a track heater or cover, or choosing a Center Drive model for cold climates.
