The Spiral Washing Machine (also known as Spiral Classifier) is a key equipment for Ore Washing, Desliming, and Classification. It utilizes the different sedimentation speeds of particles in liquid to separate fine slime from coarse sand.
Commonly paired with a Ball Mill in a closed circuit, it returns coarse sand for regrinding while overflowing fine pulp to the next stage. It is also perfect for washing silica sand and manganese ore.
Gravity separation in water: Heavy sand sinks, light slime floats.
Slurry enters the water tank. Coarse/heavy particles sink to the bottom quickly, while fine/light particles float in the water.
The slowly rotating spiral blades stir the pulp, washing away mud from the sand surface and lifting the settled sand upwards.
Cleaned sand is discharged from the top discharge port (Sand Return). Muddy water overflows from the lower weir (Overflow).
Both are classifiers, but they serve different process needs:
| Feature | Spiral Classifier | Hydrocyclone |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Gravity Sedimentation. | Centrifugal Force. |
| Separation Size | Coarser (0.15-0.8mm). | Finer (0.037-0.15mm). |
| Stability | Very Stable (Easy to control). | Sensitive to pressure fluctuations. |
| Function | Washing, Desliming, Transport. | Classification, Thickening. |

The churning action of the spiral blades effectively scrubs clay from ore surfaces, making it ideal for upgrading low-grade Manganese and Iron ores.
Equipped with an automatic lifting device (motorized or manual) at the tail end. You can lift the spiral out of the sand bed during shutdown to prevent burying.
The spiral blades are covered with replaceable wear-resistant liners (Cast Iron or Rubber), ensuring a long service life and low maintenance cost.

A: High Weir type (spirals partially submerged) is used for coarse particle classification (overflow > 0.15mm). Submerged type (spirals fully submerged at tail) is for fine particle classification (overflow < 0.15mm).
A: Yes. You can control the overflow particle size by adjusting the Slurry Concentration (adding water), the Overflow Weir Height, and the Spiral Speed.
A: It uses water for classification, but most of the water overflows with the slime. The discharged sand has relatively low moisture. The water can be recycled using a Thickener.
