Ilmenite Ore Production Line Solution provides customized process configurations for both Sand (Placer) and Rock Ilmenite ores.

Our solution utilizes physical differences in density and magnetism, employing Gravity Separation and Multi-Gradient Magnetic Separation to achieve efficient recovery and enrichment of titanium resources.

What Is Ilmenite Beneficiation?

Ilmenite Beneficiation is the process of extracting Ilmenite (FeTiO3) from gangue minerals. Ilmenite is weakly magnetic and heavy. Therefore, the primary methods involve Gravity Separation (Spiral Chute) to discard light waste and Magnetic Separation (High/Low Intensity) to separate Ilmenite from non-magnetic minerals and strong magnetic iron.

Ilmenite Beneficiation Process Options

Type A: Sand (Placer) Ilmenite Process

For alluvial sand deposits, crushing is not needed. The focus is on washing and separation.

Option 1: Gravity + Magnetic (Standard)
  • Washing: Trommel Screen removes large stones and clay.
  • Gravity Sep: Spiral Chute removes light silica sand.
  • Magnetic Sep: Low intensity (removes magnetite) -> High intensity (recovers ilmenite).
  • Best for: Coarse-grained ilmenite (>0.074mm).
Option 2: Single Magnetic (For Fine Sand)
  • Direct high-gradient magnetic separation for high-grade, fine-grained sand.

Type B: Rock (Hard Rock) Ilmenite Process

Requires liberation through crushing and grinding before separation.

  • Comminution: Jaw Crusher -> Cone Crusher -> Ball Mill (ground to -0.3mm).
  • Gravity: Spiral chutes discard light tailings early to save cost.
  • Magnetic: Multi-gradient separation to purify the concentrate.
  • Flotation/Electrostatic (Optional): For very fine particles or high-purity requirements (removal of sulfide/silicate).

Process Selection Guide

For Sand Ore

If fine particles (>50%) dominate, choose Single Magnetic Separation. For typical sand with coarse grains, choose Gravity + Magnetic to save power.

For Rock Ore

Standard process is Gravity + Magnetic. For high-purity requirements (Titanium Sponge), add Electrostatic Separation or Flotation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: How do you separate Ilmenite from Magnetite?

A: Magnetite is strongly magnetic, while Ilmenite is weakly magnetic. We use a Low Intensity Magnetic Separator (LIMS) first to remove Magnetite, then a High Intensity Magnetic Separator (HIMS) to recover Ilmenite.

Q2: What is the benefit of using Spiral Chutes?

A: Spiral Chutes are low-cost, energy-free gravity separators. They are excellent for roughing (discarding vast amounts of light silica sand early), reducing the load on downstream magnetic separators.

Q3: Can you handle slime or very fine ilmenite?

A: Yes. For micro-fine particles that Gravity Separation misses, we use Flotation or High-Gradient Magnetic Separation to recover the fine values.
