What Is Quartz Sand Beneficiation?

Quartz Sand Beneficiation is the purification of silica sand. The goal is to maximize SiO₂ content while minimizing impurities like Iron (which colors glass) and Aluminum (which affects melting). Common methods include Scrubbing (surface cleaning), Magnetic Separation (iron removal), Flotation (mica/feldspar removal), and Acid Leaching (deep purification).

Method 1: Basic Physical Sorting (For Common Glass)

Suitable for producing flat glass, container glass, etc.

  • Scrubbing: Rod Mill Scrubber removes surface iron film and clay slime.
  • Gravity Sep: Spiral Chute removes heavy minerals (like zircon, titanium).
  • Magnetic Sep: High Gradient Magnetic Separator (1.2T) removes weak magnetic iron (hematite, biotite).
  • Result: SiO₂ ≥ 99.3%, Fe₂O₃ ≤ 0.01%.

Suitable for low-iron Photovoltaic (Solar) glass sand.

Advanced Steps:
  • Flotation: Uses HF-free reagents to remove Feldspar (Aluminum) and Mica.
  • Acid Leaching: Uses mixed acid (HCl + HF) to dissolve trace impurities inside the quartz lattice.
  • Result: SiO₂ ≥ 99.9%, Fe₂O₃ ≤ 0.001% (High Purity).

Q1: Why is Scrubbing important for Quartz?

A: Quartz grains are often coated with a thin film of iron oxide or clay. Rod Mill Scrubbing uses friction between particles to mechanically rub off this film, which is essential for reducing iron content.

Q2: How do you separate Feldspar from Quartz?

A: Separation is done by Flotation. We use HF (Hydrofluoric Acid) or HF-free reagents under acidic conditions to float Feldspar while depressing Quartz.

Q3: Is Acid Leaching environmentally safe?

A: Yes, if managed correctly. We provide closed-loop Acid Leaching Systems with acid mist towers and neutralization tanks to ensure zero harmful discharge and high acid recovery.
