What Is Calcium Carbide Slag Treatment?

Calcium Carbide Slag is the waste generated from acetylene production. It often contains unreacted Calcium Carbide and heavy Ferrosilicon particles (Specific Gravity 6.3-6.8). Our treatment process uses Gravity Separation to recover these heavy alloys from the light Calcium Hydroxide slag (Specific Gravity 2.2-2.3), turning a waste disposal problem into a resource recovery opportunity.

Sorting Process Steps

Step 1: Screening & Classification

Goal: Separate material into size fractions for efficient sorting.

  • Feeding: Uniform feeding via silo.
  • Screening: Trommel Screen divides material into 3 grades:
    • >30mm: Large lumps (Ferrosilicon/Carbide) are recovered by manual picking.
    • 8-30mm: Sent to Large Particle Jig.
    • 0-8mm: Sent to Fine Particle Jig.

Step 2: Gravity Separation (Jigging)

Goal: Recover heavy Ferrosilicon alloy.

  • Principle: Based on the huge density difference (FeSi 6.3 vs Slag 2.2).
  • Equipment: Jig Machine uses pulsating water to stratify the material. Heavy alloy sinks to the bottom as concentrate, while light slag floats as tailings.
  • Result: High-purity Ferrosilicon recovery without chemicals.

Step 3: Dewatering

  • Product Handling: Both the Ferrosilicon concentrate and the purified slag tailings are dewatered by Dewatering Screens. The alloy is sold, and the slag is sent for further processing.

After removing Ferrosilicon, the purified calcium carbide slag is a premium raw material:

  • Cement Production: Replaces limestone as a calcium source.
  • Building Materials: Used for calcium silicate boards, bricks, and blocks.

A: No. The process is entirely physical (Gravity Separation) using recycled water. There is no chemical pollution.

A: Yes. Since jigging is a wet process, it is perfect for handling wet calcium carbide slag directly without drying.
