What Is Alluvial Gold Beneficiation?

Alluvial Gold (Placer Gold) Beneficiation differs from rock gold processing as it does not require crushing or grinding. The gold is already liberated but mixed with gravel and clay. The core process involves Washing (to break up clay), Screening (to remove large rocks), and Gravity Separation (to concentrate heavy gold based on density).

Alluvial Gold Process Steps

Step 1: Washing & Screening (Pre-treatment)

Goal: Remove large waste rocks (>6mm) and wash away sticky clay.

Washing: High-pressure water jets inside a Trommel Screen or Rotary Scrubber disintegrate clay balls which can trap gold.
Screening: Large gravel is discarded as waste. The gold-bearing fine sand (-6mm) falls through the screen for processing.

Step 2: Roughing (Core Recovery)

Depending on the gold particle size, we use specific gravity concentrators:

For Coarse Gold (+0.5mm):
Use Jig Machine. It has a large capacity and effectively recovers nuggets.

For Fine Gold (0.02-1mm):
Use Centrifugal Concentrator. High G-force captures microscopic gold that sluices might miss.

Step 3: Cleaning (Purification)

Goal: Upgrade the rough concentrate to high-grade gold.

Shaking Table: 6-S Shaking Table separates gold from heavy black sand (magnetite). Concentrate grade can reach 1000-2000g/t.
Amalgamation/Magnetic Separation: For final purification to obtain free gold.

Q1: How do you handle sticky clay?

A: Sticky clay can "rob" gold. We use a Rotary Scrubber or heavy-duty Trommel with high-pressure water jets to completely wash and disintegrate the clay before separation.

Q2: What is the difference between a Jig and a Centrifuge?

A: A Jig is best for coarse gold nuggets and continuous operation. A Centrifugal Concentrator uses high G-force to recover micro-fine gold that gravity alone (like sluices) would miss.
