Total Solution for Steel Slag Sorting & Resource Utilization turns metallurgical waste into iron concentrate and construction materials.

This solution employs "Crushing - Grinding - Magnetic Separation" to recover metallic iron (recovery rate > 90%). The remaining tailings are processed into cement or road base, achieving 100% resource utilization and eliminating solid waste stockpiles.

What Is Steel Slag Treatment?

Steel Slag Treatment is the process of recycling slag from steelmaking. It involves crushing large slag lumps, grinding them to liberate iron particles, and using magnetic separation to recover the iron. The non-magnetic fraction (tailings) is then treated to meet standards for use in cement, concrete, and road construction.

Steel Slag Processing Steps

Step 1: Crushing (Pre-treatment)

Goal: Reduce slag size to <25-60mm for grinding.

  • Coarse Crushing: Jaw Crusher handles large slag lumps (< 500mm).
  • Fine Crushing: Secondary Jaw or Cone Crusher reduces material to suitable feed size.
  • Feeding: Vibrating Feeder ensures uniform flow.

Step 2: Grinding & Classification

Goal: Liberate iron particles from slag matrix.

  • Grinding: Rod Mill is preferred over ball mills to avoid over-grinding brittle slag while effectively flattening ductile steel particles.
  • Classification: Screens separate -5mm fines for magnetic separation. +5mm oversize returns to the mill.

Step 3: Magnetic Separation (Iron Recovery)

Goal: Recover metallic iron.

  • Primary Separation: Wet Magnetic Separator (CTS series) recovers magnetic iron powder.
  • Secondary Recovery: Magnetic Pulleys on conveyors recover any remaining iron from tailings.

Step 4: Tailings Resource Utilization

  • Cement: Used as iron corrector or active admixture.
  • Construction: Road base, concrete aggregate, permeable bricks.
  • Benefit: Creates a second revenue stream beyond iron recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Why use a Rod Mill instead of a Ball Mill?

A: Rod mills use line contact for grinding, which is better for selective crushing. They effectively break brittle slag while flattening ductile steel particles without over-grinding them into slime, improving recovery.

Q2: Can I just crush and sell the slag?

A: You can, but you lose the value of the iron. Our solution recovers the iron first (highest value), then processes the tailings, maximizing profit.

Q3: Is the process wet or dry?

A: We recommend a Wet Process (Rod Mill + Wet Magnetic Sep) as it produces cleaner concentrate and controls dust. However, water recycling systems are included to minimize consumption.
