Peripheral Rack and Pinion Drive Thickener (NT Series)

The NT Type Thickener is a heavy-duty sedimentation equipment driven by a Rack and Pinion system on the tank periphery. This positive drive mechanism eliminates slippage, making it superior to roller friction drives.

With diameters ranging from 15m to 53m, it provides massive torque for thickening high-density tailings and coal slime in large-scale Tailings Management projects.

Drive Mechanism

A toothed rack is mounted on the circular track. The motor-driven pinion gear meshes with this rack, pushing the bridge forward without slipping.

Torque Transmission

The positive engagement allows for much higher torque transmission than friction rollers, enabling the rakes to plow through heavy sludge.

Raking & Discharge

The long rake arms rotate slowly, scraping settled solids to the center. The center column supports the bridge but does not bear the drive torque.

A: No. The rack is made of hardened steel and operates at a very low speed (peripheral speed < 10m/min). With proper lubrication, it lasts for many years.

Q: Can I retrofit my existing roller drive thickener?

A: Yes. We can provide a modification kit to install the rack segments onto your existing concrete wall and replace the drive carriage, upgrading it to a positive drive system.

Q: How do you ship a 50m thickener?

A: We don't ship the tank. We supply the Drive Mechanism, Bridge (in sections), Center Column, and Rake Arms. The concrete tank is built on-site by the client according to our civil engineering drawings.
