What Is Barite Beneficiation?

Barite Beneficiation is the process of purifying Barite ore by removing gangue minerals (clay, limestone, quartz) and iron impurities. Since Barite has a high specific gravity (4.5), Gravity Separation (Jigging) is the most economical method for coarse ore. For fine or low-grade ore, Flotation is used to achieve high purity.

Barite Beneficiation Process Methods

Method 1: Gravity Separation (Mainstream)

Best for coarse-grained ore (+0.5mm) with BaSO₄ ≥ 30%. Low cost, high efficiency.

  • Crushing: Jaw Crusher + Cone Crusher reduce ore size.
  • Screening: Circular Vibrating Screen classifies material for Jigging.
  • Jigging: Jigger separates heavy Barite from light gangue.
  • Result: Concentrate Grade BaSO₄ ≥ 85%.

Method 2: Magnetic Separation (Whitening)

Essential for pharmaceutical or paint grade Barite requiring high whiteness.

  • Process: Wet High Gradient Magnetic Separation (1.0-1.5T).
  • Goal: Remove iron-bearing minerals (e.g., Siderite, Hematite) to reduce Fe₂O₃ content to ≤ 0.5%.

Method 3: Flotation Separation (Purification)

Used for fine-grained (-0.074mm) or low-grade tailings (BaSO₄ 8-15%).

  • Reagents: Anionic collectors (Fatty Acids) and Cationic depressants.
  • Result: High-grade Concentrate BaSO₄ ≥ 95%.
